Colorado Hotel Sues Hemp Event Organizer for Unpaid Venue services
A Colorado hotel has recently filed a lawsuit against hemp event organizer WAFBA, Inc., seeking $160,000 in unpaid fees for providing a venue for this year’s NoCo Hemp Expo. The Broadmoor Hotel Inc., located in Colorado Springs, filed the lawsuit against WAFBA, a Ft. Collins-based company that organizes NoCo and other hemp-themed conferences and trade shows, earlier this month. The event was held from March 29-31, 2023.
Alleged Breach of Contract
According to the complaint, despite the hotel providing the services in full, the defendant has failed to pay for the services, which constitutes a material breach of the contract. The hotelier provided rooms, meeting and function space, conference areas, and other accommodations to the event, which remain unpaid, leading to the lawsuit filed in District Court in Colorado’s El Paso County. Broadmoor is seeking $160,398, plus interest, attorney fees, and costs.
Response from WAFBA
According to Morris Beegle, president of WAFBA, “This is an unfortunate situation with a lot of moving parts. WAFBA is actively working behind the scenes toward a resolution with the Broadmoor.”
WAFBA has a history of organizing hemp events, such as the NoCo Hemp Expo, which is scheduled for its 10th edition in April 2024 in Estes Park, Colorado. Additionally, WAFBA has partnered with the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA) to jointly produce the organization’s annual conference in Prague, Czech Republic, in June 2024 through Experience Hemp, a related entity.
Previous Events and Cancellations
It is worth noting that WAFBA has canceled some events in the past, including the Southern Hemp Expo in Nashville, Tennessee, and Raleigh, North Carolina, which was canceled in 2023.
