Chinese Hemp Producer to Open New Factory in North Carolina
A Chinese hemp food producer has announced that it will be opening a new factory in North Carolina by the end of the year. Q-Power, Inc. has invested $10 million into the facility, which will produce seed-based products at its complex in Louisburg, N.C. The company also plans to make further investments in the future to expand its product line.
Company Background
Q-Power, Inc. has been in business for over 20 years and is part of a massive government-owned Chinese conglomerate that produces a wide range of products, including food, clothing, machinery, petroleum, lumber, metals, and minerals. The company has plans to hire 20-30 employees to operate the highly automated phase I facility.
Expansion and Market Growth
Chairwoman Zhiyi Zhang stated, “We have imported some products from China already. So, we have set up a good relationship around the U.S. Q-Power is committed to investing and exploring the market in the United States to meet our American customers’ needs.”
The company hopes to produce a total of 1,000 tons of hemp seed, oil, and protein annually at the new facility. This expansion comes as Chinese hemp producers have shipped roughly 100 tons of hemp seed worth a half million dollars to American customers so far this year according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service.
Local Impact
North Carolina officials have welcomed the Chinese investment, with Franklin County economic development director Barbara Fiedor stating, “Having a company that’s going to bring other alternatives and options for the consumer is a good thing.” Franklin County Manager Kim Denton added, “I am excited about Q-power opening its operations here in the County. Franklin County continues to grow and is well positioned for companies like Q-Power to thrive.”
