A group of sheep consumes 100 kg of cannabis in Greece.
A flock of sheep near the town of Almyros in Thessaly, Greece, recently devoured nearly 100 kg of medical cannabis grown in a greenhouse. The sheep were sheltering after flooding caused by the Daniel storm that hit Greece, Libya, Turkey and Bulgaria.
Because many plains near Thessaly were also flooded, there was little fresh grass for the animals. After some wandering, the sheep and the damaged greenhouse arrived full of medicinal grass. When their shepherd found them later, he noticed that the sheep were behaving strangely.
Cannabis legalization
Marijuana has been legal in Greece for medicinal purposes since 2017. In 2023, the country opened its first medical cannabis production plant. The cultivation of cannabis for medical use has provided much-needed economic opportunities for the country. The province cultivated and exported cannabis before its possession was banned in 1936.
Several countries, including Britain, Germany, Italy and Denmark, allow medical weed to be prescribed, and Canada became the second country in the world after Uruguay to fully legalize marijuana, ending a ninety-year prohibition.
